GEF Gives Back

GEF staff were happy to lend a hand at Edmonton’s Food Bank through our Employee Volunteer Program, helping sort donations, repack food items, build grocery boxes and hampers for clients, and organize the warehouse. Since the launch of the volunteer program in February 2025, GEF staff have contributed over 430 volunteer hours with local charities and non-profits across Edmonton. We’re grateful for the opportunity to support organizations that help so many in our community and proud to find new ways to give back.

Are you a non-profit organization with volunteer opportunities for our team? We’d love to hear from you. Contact Stephanie Martin at 780-733-7682 for more information.

GEF staff volunteered at Terra Centre through our Employee Volunteer Program, helping prepare meals in the Terra Community Kitchen. The meals are frozen and later served during parenting groups, supporting teen parent families as they access programs and services designed to help them build strong futures.

Through our Employee Volunteer Program, GEF staff made multiple visits to Edmonton’s Food Bank, where they helped sort and repack food, build boxes and hampers for clients, and organize the warehouse.

Through our Employee Volunteer Program, GEF staff spent time at Sport Central helping prepare donated bicycles for the community. Staff cleaned bikes and installed bells, stickers, and reflectors to support their volunteer mechanics in repairing and redistributing the sports equipment to youth in need.

GEF staff volunteered with WECAN Food Basket Society, helping prepare food orders to support access to nutritious, affordable food.

GEF staff were proud to support Edmonton’s Food Bank with their holiday mail-out campaign. Through our Employee Volunteer Program, the team prepared bags that donors filled with food to help support families in need during the festive season.

GEF staff and members of our executive team, including our CEO, volunteered at the Bissell Thrift Shop, sorting donations, stocking shelves, and refreshing the space. The shop supports Bissell Centre by providing essentials like clothing and hygiene items to those in need.

Through GEF’s Employee Volunteer Program, our staff pitched in at WECAN Food Basket Society – helping sort and organize nutritious food orders for local families.

GEF Managers came together to support Edmonton’s Food Bank by helping to sort and pack food donation hampers – a rewarding way to give back through our Employee Volunteer Program.

Earlier this year, staff members volunteered with United Way’s InKind Exchange, sorting and packaging kits filled with books and developmental toys for children in need. While the United Way InKind Exchange has since closed, the impact it made and the memories from volunteering remain. We’re proud to support United Way’s mission to create brighter futures for families across our region, and we look forward to discovering new options to make a difference together.

The dedicated knitting group from GEF Rosslyn Place and Sakaw Terrace visited Crystal Kids Youth Centre to donate handmade creations and join the seniors’ breakfast. It was a beautiful morning of connection and kindness. Crystal Kids provides mentorship, meals, and life-skills to youth who need it most. GEF is proud to support their vital work with children and youth. We’re so grateful for the ongoing community support for our Great Knitting Giveaway efforts over the years!
